Welcome
to RossoRed.com. This site is dedicated to the Alfa Romeo Spider. More specifically,
the legendary Italian sportscar produced from 1967 - 1994. Although there is a
new Spider produced by Alfa Romeo,
it does not have much in common with it's predecessor - other than the name - and
even worse, is not imported into North America.
The Alfa Romeo Spider is a convertible two - seater, with a two liter, chain-driven dual-overhead
cam all-aluminum engine, rear-wheel drive and stunning styling by world renowned
carrosserie Pininfarina (Coachbuilder).
I became a spider owner in September, 1998.
I always dreamed of Italian sportscars as a teenager. The people in my life were
more interested in American and Japanese cars, so this hindered my interest in
autosport.
Strangely enough, my wife is the person who sparked my interest. Jane owns a 1969
Citroen DS. Her love for the car and patience for it's finickyness was and still
is an inspiration to me. Considering the Citroen DS' obscurity, I reconsidered
the Italian Sportscar of my dreams.
After months of research, I made the realization that the Alfa Spider is a perfect
fit. It had the feel of a Ferrari, without the hassle and expense of eight- or
twelve- cylinders, and roughly the pricetag of a Fiat Spider, without the mediocre
package (Sorry, Fiat Owners - just stating my opinion!). I could afford it. So
after a rocky shopping experience, I finally got a jewel.
A 1988 Spider Graduate. Only 26,770 miles on the odometer, a new sand-colored
canvas top, and a body that was fairly immaculate. Best of all was the pristine
original paint:
